Stigmata would know the sound of her herald; Aure’s peal was made wisping on the spring winds, and was sent up regardless of whether Diaspore sentinels had sighted them or not. In the meantime, she wove her way among the company — rousing those to attention. But it was when the familiar spires of Stigmata’s claim were in sight that the little she-wolf strode her way to the front lines.
Her face set itself into bleak diligence, her womb weighing her steps but never a grievance. No, the life murmuring within her belly had her settling at the forefront, as the ever-sprightly Vonnaruil sculpted himself at her flank.
This time, Aure did not linger in silence, as she had when Stigmata had first regarded her; rising from a mild obeisance, she set haggard silver eyes on whomever had attended her call. ”We have come from ze northern cliffs, from Drageda. We have dispersed, driven by ze instigations of our enemy. Diaspora was our first, final decision, and—“ When her breath stuttered, plight stolen by a sharp ruckus in her heavy womb, her twin was there.
”Numbers are what we are — what you need,” Vonn continued, glimpsed upon those behind Aure, and then to their hosts with an imploring look. His tone, though jovial, remained unassuming, even, ”You do need them, do you not? With children on the way, Diaspora must want many, and more.” And hopefully, this cliff-company. If the sense of perseverance, of prevalence hadn’t already been felt by the Diaspore, then the Crow wasn’t sure if he’d felt anything before this moment.
Neither twin begged forgiveness for their words; all that they said held true. The she-silver prayed that this brusque, reasoning manner would appease to the hardy nomads. Her resolve waned with each passing moment, even with Vonn at her shoulder and the remaining kru at her back. On the notion of her impending delivery, she kept her tongue. For now.
