To think he could escape the nightmares by taking refuge in a different world. Ha! Such childish wishes. In reality, being with the Firebirds had deteriorated his mental state. Despite being surrounded by faces, Orochi had never felt so alienated. Not only that, but staying put in one place had made him restless. Trapped and alone, the perfect breeding ground for horrible thoughts. Not a day went by without him thinking about his mother, or Minori, or Issun. Blood blood, so much blood. Orochi couldn't take it much longer. 

When there was no eyes fixed on him, he ran. If the copse wouldn't allow him to forget, he thought, then the rest of the world would. He didn't need to rely on anyone to keep him alive or comfort him. He could face this world alone, as he had been doing since the day Takara left him.

Maybe it was an undying pride that made him cross the borders or impulse. Maybe it was neither of those things. The boy had grown thin as the days passed and he was hungry. Within a claim lies a meal and the naïve boy couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Orochi waltzed into the lion's den without a second thought, ignorant of the danger he had just put himself in.
