Kratos obliges immediately, and Zephyr starts to tense in an unfamiliar way. Even the ache of his wounds doesn't seem to dull the sudden heat spreading through him, or slow his heart's frantic flutters. He feels even more queasy than before, but the feeling isn't entirely bad, somehow. And when he registers Kratos's chin atop him and the mingling of their fur, he realizes he'd forgotten something. Perhaps the most important thing. He wants to be with me. Forever.
His breath hitches, and he presses into the touch, eyes closing. He can't help picturing Kratos's face, his confident stride, the way he looms over everyone else. His heart starts to feel like it might burst out of his chest any moment. Suddenly he feels small and fragile, and full of a strange aching longing he didn't know existed. And he has no idea what to do with it.
