He offered them a similar version of what he had given her when she questioned him about the whole kidnapping situation. And now, like then, she wanted to believe him, but it was difficult to really justify such an action. Huā was right: they all had lost something, and none of them, at least the ones she knew, had ever done anything like that. Her dad had died right in front of her, but she didn't go out and kidnap someone, no matter how messed up she was over it. She had been a child then, but even now, nothing would make her act in such a way. She didn't bother trying to keep the disbelief and dismay from her expression; she was furious with him for lying and disappointed in his actions.
She was relieved that he agreed to leave. After how tense things were right now, she half expected some kind of retaliation, but he seemed reasonable enough not to risk whatever members of his pack he had managed to accumulate. Although, it seemed he couldn't help but poke the bear as he stated his departure, which made her roll her eyes. He acted as if this was all Huā 's fault when he and his pack clearly held all the blame. But, she supposed she wasn't all that surprised by his reaction.
An unfamiliar man appeared then, not saying anything but it was clear his allegiance was with Donovan.
When they were alone again, the others began talking, but she didn't really have much to say. She was ready to go home and put this all behind her. She felt Mal's gaze on her, and she offered him a stiff smile to try and assure him she was okay, which was a lie but she didn't want him to worry, and she definitely didn't want to think too much into things here.
She nodded at the suggestion made by the man from Kaistleokie. That was probably a good idea. They couldn't know where the Saints would go now, and it was good to check around to make sure it wasn't somewhere equally close.
