Emberwood Did you wonder where I've been all night

The stranger's weak promise did nothing to lessen Taki's fury. She did not want anything from the injured woman except for her not to be their problem. Her gaze flicked down to her briefly, but that was the only acknowledgment she received. Her home was west, over the mountains, so now they were expected to watch their backs and help this stranger too. 

It was quite clear that Taki had no say in how this would go; Taikon was set on helping her, and there would be no forcing him to abandon what he now viewed as his responsibility. She released a long sigh and shook her head. I guess that's it then, she told him. I see I have no choice in the matter, so do as you please. She stood. Since I am the only one that cares for our safety, I'll spend the night on the perimeter—alone. They were supposed to be in this together, and he had made this decision impulsively and without giving her a say. She briefly considered just leaving him to his choices, but the thought made her heart ache, and she knew she couldn't do that, no matter how angry she was. 

Without another word to either wolf, she trotted away to sulk and patrol. There was no way she would be able to sleep now.
