Without skipping a beat, the other wolf rolled with her explanation. Lane laughed, out of surprise as much as anything else. She hadn't been expecting the quick comeback. Clearly he was working with a sharp wit behind those-- admittedly dreamy-- citrine eyes.
Her laugh faded into a sheepish smile. "I'm just glad it's not Grumbles I stepped on. Really though, ah.. my bad." Lane watched the stranger's tongue flick out to taste the water, and she winced inwardly, feeling his pain. She definitely did not recommend that.
The stranger lingered in the pool alongside Lane. He really didn't seem annoyed in the least, which was kind of amazing given that his wake-up call included being kicked, stepped on, and dumped into a pool of water. He even asked her what brought her out here... as if their meeting was compeletely normal and natural, and not a mini-disaster. Okay, Lane would play along.
"I dunno," she admitted, wishing that she had something cool or clever to say in response. Obviously this was the sort of guy that appreciated cool and clever, and for some reason Lane felt the need to make up for her flop of a first impression. "Exploring, I guess." Lane swallowed hard, feeling the heat of embarrassment burning behind her ears. Was this pool hot, or what?
"What about you, do you..." Do you come here often? Was she really about to ask that? "--have a pack nearby?" Good save, Lane.
