Finally she saw Rowan approaching their den, and she turned and walked inside as he looked over Taikon and apologized for the delay.

Taikon called out to her, the sound disoriented and weak. She walked over and gently nuzzled his cheek again. At this point, she felt like his condition was her fault. She had gone on a dead end mission and come home with no lead on a healer. She tried to do what she could, but this was all beyond her skill set. Meanwhile, he just continued to get sicker and sicker, deteriorating right before her eyes. She was beside herself, teetering between angry and desolate; she tried to keep all of that from Taikon, although he probably wasn't able to take in much of his surroundings in his state.

It is fine, she said, the words short only because she wanted Rowan to do something before things got worse. Can you help him? His infection is bad—I have been trying to support him, but I do not know what else to do. She looked to Rowan then, fear in her tired gaze. She was afraid to hope; it had never gotten her anywhere.
