A small voice stirred Lane from her nap, and the new mother cracked her eyes open reluctantly.
"Iana?" she called tentatively. The children would not be disturbed by sounds-- not for another few weeks, anyway- so there really was no need to whisper.
The scent of blood would linger in the den; Veteran had arrived in a wave of red. Someone appeared to have done a little tidying while Lane slept, churning the soil to help bury the mess and then papering over everything with layers of skins and furs.
"What's that?" During the daytime, half-light from the main chamber spilled into Lane's room, and she had watched Iana deposit something in her doorway.
The children began to stir. Although they couldn't see, smell, or hear, they still had the uncanny ability to sense when Lane was awake.
Lane's inquiry was met with silence. Iana had gone, so quickly that Lane wasn't quite convinced she had been there in the first place. Why hadn't she stayed? Lane had a sneaking feeling that seeing the pups might have been too hard on the beta. She was the only one of the OG (original Glacier) females who hadn't yet shown signs of pregnancy. No doubt that would sting, if that was something that Iana had been hoping for this year.
Before her pair had been born, Lane would have given Iana her own pregnancy gladly had it been possible. However, now they they had emerged as beautiful, perfect little people, she knew she could never give them up.
After a long sigh, she turned back to the children, licking and snuggling them in an effort to convinced them to settle back down.

I'm wrapping this since Iana is inactive, but if you want to reopen once you bring her back let me know!
