nausea was an early sign, but mireille knew she must wait some weeks to know. sapphique was terribly silent; it would be a long while before children filled the forests and cliffside once more. she herself took to toning her body in the frigid water, breaking ice where she wished to swim and surfacing elsewhere.
today she drifted softly toward sea, bobbing in the surf as if she were a spot of blood.
