another time he might marvel the fluidity of her motions, but not today. the cat spun as safiya drove into hips, pouncing upon their tall guardian and bringing him to the ground. 

fiamma’s streaking form besets her immediately, raking teeth across cheek and forcing the cat backwards. 

soto falls besides kemal, head low as he flung himself between the two; standing barrier until kemal finds his feet again. 

this momentary fracture in formation was enough for the puma to collect considerable ground. winded from his efforts, soto trotted after the chasing fiamma and safiya, tongue lolling from parted jaws. 

the cat’s tracks spill out into mainland, away from verapaz claim. to preserve their safety soto calls them back, single eye glinting with fierce pride to know they’d driven the wild’s fiercest predator from their midst.
