Mm. I found out why my mate didn't return. He's dead.Arbiter didn't exactly have a wide emotional range -- or at least that was the way she often presented herself in most scenarios. This was one of those cases. Whatever went on deep below the surface was guarded, moreso than usual. So her voice was somewhat flat, staying factual. But that was the easiest way to deal with things, wasn't it? She needed to figure out what that might change, if anything at this point. It allowed freedom, but at least right now that wasn't entirely what she'd wanted. It was not the ending she was expecting to things.

And it was probably also a conversation killer. But she wasn't good at that either.
