augur's heavy forelegs gripped either side of the bison's broad muzzle. he tore at its eyelids, its ears, its mouth. he sank his teeth into the flesh beneath one cheek and hung on, straining backward with powerful hindlegs.

in his moment of triumph, the bison hooked the hunter. he thankfully did not absorb the hornpoint into his flesh, but his teeth suddenly closed on nothing and he was thrown eight feet, landing in a stunned heap with a yelp.
