The Heartwood No one seems to keep

Admittedly, of all the possible results pondered Heph had not considered that it would not be her to be attacked first amongst the four of them. The muscles around her eyes tensed for a moment as the smaller wolf whirled on the larger and she stared impassively for a moment as she watched the beginnings of the scene play out. The hearbeats where the silver-eyes wolf hung, frame dwarfed by the larger incomer, and then the swift retribution. Dominance squabbles happened in packs, especially if this one was new and there was not real dominance to remember and call back on. Then again submitting was a part of pack life as well. The entire scene felt surreal to her, while it was not unfamiliar watching as an outsider felt distinctly strange, and if the pair simply wanted to fight each other she might as well be on her way as she had no intention of taking sides.

Heph glanced at the other wolf who had seemingly decided not to involve himself in the ensuing conflict and had instead sidled closer to her. She sidestepped a few paw steps, not keen on standing too close to the ensuing fight to be mistaken for a participant, and also unsure why he had even bothered. The other wolf did not strike her as a guardian of either of the two wolves trading snaps at each other and certainly not of her. However, she could not say that she was not curious as to how the entire thing panned out. Heph's heart beat just as red as any other wolf and while she would much rather trade playful blows and sharp but empty words she wanted to know the outcome. She supposed he could be blocking her exit but she wondered if whether she staid or left was even that important.
