The talk he'd had with Constantine had gone well enough; his intentions had been set, and he left behind the forest without issue. Screech liked to think of the dark wolf as one of his few allies, but to be truthful, he wasn't sure how he felt upon confronting him. The chance that the leader of Ravensblood Forest would fall to his base instinct (one held by all black-furred wolves to be tricksters, blood-hungry and monstrous) was something Screech couldn't help but entertain. Still, he had left in one piece.

He followed the river as he had before, heading south until the sight of the flatlands beyond made him too nervous. Screech had never crossed the Hoshor Plains and yet, upon seeing the land level-out as it crept towards the distant horizon, he saw the danger there. To be caught in an open field would certainly spell his demise — whether it was caused by the Cerberus hunting him down again, or Constantine sending a spy along to keep an eye out. He desperately wished to trust in his friend, but Screech had learned through many hard lessons that certain people just couldn't be trusted to the full extent of others.

So, he had a drink at the river and then veered towards the mountains. The goal was to find Rannoch and be reunited, but there was always the chance his family had moved on to somewhere safer. He had no idea that this rock-hewn path would lead him towards the Sunspire, nor that they had settled there. But he had found them somewhere among these mountains once — and Screech wouldn't give up hope that he would see them again.

anatha's disappearance during their travels has delight on edge. it's always possible she decided to go her own way but -- every time he makes that assumption someone comes back to him a little more traumatized, and given they must have been passing near where anatha was hurt the first time... he doesn't want to fail her again. they've only barely just settled but he tells @Queenie he's going to look for her and keep an eye on everyone please while they're all tired and heads out.

still unaware at this point that nearly next door rannoch, that mythic figure of (mato's) lore, has settled with his very own brienne, delight makes his way down the ridge of the mountain, cutting a nervous lonely figure against the lingering snow. he spots the other boy at a distance and slows his steps, not recognizing him as the boy he'd sort-of hunted with that one time way back when, letting out a chuff in greeting.

If he thought about his big brother long enough Screech would inevitably think of his sister too, and that would spiral in to a weird amalgamation over time — since Liffey was his adoptive sister and Rannoch was his brother (also sort-of adopted but in another way) and they were together, Screech realized as he moseyed that he'd built himself an incestuous little family. He found himself snickering to himself at the thought, but this stopped when he heard something - a call, a cough, - and whatever mirth he had been feeling was replaced by a stern irritation.

He glanced around until his gaze landed on the stranger; it took a little bit longer than it should've but he only had the one eye, so whatever. A vague sense of recognition caught in his mind's eye too, upon seeing the dark figure; he wondered if he'd been found out by the Cerberus after all, and tensed, ready to bolt. But the stranger was thinner and much smaller than any of the sisters. There were striations of white upon their face, as if their body was actively rebelling against the darkness it was born with. Screech drifted closer but kept a healthy space between the two of them, and then murmured, Who're you?

there's something about the boy that strikes delight as incredibly familiar, but he can't put a paw on it -- and anyway, how could he possibly forget meeting someone with such a gnarly face scar? looking at it makes him nearly blurt a series of invasive questions, only barely managing to restrain himself. the guy looks a little too unfriendly to put up with the morwinyon's peculiarities, and he's got bigger fish to fry.

"delight," he answers, "my pack lives nearby. have you seen a girl with a slight frame, red fur?" it's a long shot but hey. he's  not gonna exhaust his options just yet. and maybe if he talks to the boy for a bit he can figure out what's so familiar about him (probably not.)
