All Welcome
She had a pretty good suspicion that she was rapidly closing in on the most uncomfortable part of this two-moons worth of gestation. While the earliest weeks had their own share of discomfort, for a slew of reasons, it was different than this that followed a relative plateau. She felt the cramps and aches more distinctly than before, and consistently, all while already starting to feel a bit crowded out -- but that had started about as soon as she became aware of their subtle movements that were stronger than vague flutters recently. That seemed to really draw her attention to them.

This was why her time on the borderlands was finally starting to shorten. However, she had due cause to linger on the edges extra today, even if her progress over them was slower than normal. Charon, Floki, and Dash alike were all out in the Wilds in pursuit of Lazarus, and had been gone for a bit now. She didn't know when they may come back, or what they were doing exactly. Last she knew, they'd caught trace in Bramblepoint. Despite having zero personal involvement in this active search and no way of knowing what their noses had found exactly, she suspected if they were going to gain any ground on this, it would have to be now. Much longer and this trail was going to go cold.

Nevertheless, there was no denying that she anticipated their return. In the meantime she mustered some distraction by refreshing a few markers here and there now that the dusk was finally approaching. Often, she glanced towards the direction of the valleys surrounding them.

she's referencing them all being here in this thread so technically dated around then/after/idk~~~

since this remained lonely, I'll pop in here to bring the results of this: http://wolf-rpg.com/showthread.php?tid=16904&pid=213192#pid213192

With @Dash and @Floki by his side Charon returned to the pack lands, Lazarus' head between his teeth after the female from the Fen had given it to him. It was luck that when the trio arrived, they ran straight into Amekaze as she was patrolling the borders. Ears perked up in her direction when he noticed her and he chuffed, sound muffled through holding the head, to grab Ame's attention as he neared with the head, which was beginning to grow smelly, glad he could soon throw it down in front of her as a prize, a trophy, a proof that he had upheld his duty to her.

This is so morbid. I love it, lol

The trio made their way back. Dash was happy that Charon choose to only take the head back to Ame, as it was far less difficult than dragging the entire body. While they headed back, Dash offered to carry the head to give Charon a break, if he needed it.

They arrived at the borders, and as luck would have it, Amekaze was there patrolling. The black male came to a stop at Charon's shoulder, hoping their success in finding Lazarus would please the Alpha female.

It had been gruesome yet satisfying work to remove Lazarus' head from his body. Once the mangled skull was clasped firmly in Charon's jaws, Floki had given one last withering glance at the remains of their former packmate -- if he could even be called that. Lazarus had never been part of their family; from the beginning, his intentions had been dubious.

When he turned away on the corpse, Floki didn't look back. He followed his brother and Dash back to Moonspear and the trio almost immediately came upon Amekaze. Charon wasted no time in presenting his prize -- he flung the head down onto the ground without a word. There was no explanation needed. Floki stood at the Alpha's shoulder, waiting to see his sister-in-law's reaction.

While this wasn't exactly what she wanted to do, it was helping pass the time and keep the borders tended. She made no effort to get through it quickly since it was looking peaceful so far, and moseyed as needed. So when this simple approach led her towards sight of the others, her ears perked and the rest of her posture followed. She wasted little time closing distance between them, Charon being the one she zeroed in on, although she glanced over the others quickly enough to see that they were all returning well -- they were both at his shoulders, anyway, poised and seemingly in good order. Her interest lie in what he carried: ..a wolf's head? Realization followed once she got a better look at it. It belonged to Lazarus.

Finally. A finding marked by a conclusive relief, even though it was unnerving to see any piece of him again, just a head or not. These were the same teeth that had once guarded the mountain, only to go on to later dig cruelly into her scruff unwarranted, after all, and hopefully not the features her offspring would inherit. She refused to think about it and swallowed that unease down before it could take form in full. A reminder of that would be the last thing this would be. Instead, a prize.

"Good," she chuffed quietly. When she moved in closer to take a better look at the head, she smelled the hints of decay and still saw no evidence of a fight written upon any of their bodies. Either they'd done him a favor and offed him when he withered away, or found him dead already she guessed just by looking at this. "Where did you find him?" she had to know.

In her typical manner, Ame showed little when he dropped the head in front of her without a word (theirs had never been a relation marred by words all that much). Yet he knew that beyond her stoic exterior she had to be happy with what they had found, and a single word confirmed those suspicions as soon as she had inspected the head, as though to confirm that it was Lazarus first.

She asked where they had found him, and though it mattered little to Charon — except he'd have to visit the Fen later to thank them, even if it was a coincidence he had been there — he said: "Broken Antler Fen. We found a trail near Lake Rodney, and someone from that pack knew what had happened and brought us to him. He died there after they found him at the lake and brought him to their pack." Proper thanks would be extended later, because for now he needed to be home again and he needed to focus on what the near future would bring — and, with Lazarus out the way and in some way, the Goober-incident righted too, he would be able to again. Things would only get better from here on out, he knew.

i figure it makes sense to post her again so >_>
Ame narrowed her eyes upon the head, motionless at their paws with a vacant, decaying stare set into its features. Her ears tipped towards Charon, she nodded slowly and kept the name of the pack for later. In the end, he had traveled more distance than she had originally suspected, and she had to wonder what had inspired them to take him in at all. Yet in a vaguely similiar vein of thought, she'd done the same in finding Charon in the mountains too. She knew very little of that pack down in the moose swamps, so, there was no telling what had been the situation on their end, though.

She suspected being pitched off the slopes brought the injuries that had killed him in the long run, or whatever Charon had done moments before in combination. The recollections were dim for her, pushed far away and dissociated away from best she could. Somehow, that made it easier to digest.

Yet no matter her strife with it, this was the closure. The best they could hope to have and she wanted this to finally be the bookend on all this bad. While lacking the satisfaction of a slaughter, she sensed it could still strike the same balance, should he glean his compensation in full as well. She was.. just glad to get away from it and to have it firmly behind them, no open ends or anything (save for the possibility of the litter -- but she had almost made her peace with that too). Charon had done this for her.. even with the noise with Althaia a distant hum and he'd searched until this could come to pass. She just wanted him to know, unquestionably, that Lazarus had not diminished her worth.

She found a lot on her mind, still, and nodded appreciatively to Floki and Dash with a glance their way. She did not know if they intended to stay, but she would not fault them should they wish to rest. The same could be said for Charon. He'd covered his share of miles.. she knew. Selfishly though, she almost wanted the pale alpha all to herself. She settled him with an imploring look -- was he satisfied? Was there anything else to know? If not, all that remained was for decay to have its way with Lazarus.

I'm so sorry! I thought it was Floki's turn >_<

He watched silently as they spoke, and Ame inspected the head of her attacker. He wondered if she was happy, genuinely so. She deserved the proof that Lazarus was dead and could never hurt her again. Dash believed that, not even knowing the full story. But, he probably would have believed it with even less, remembering the vibe he got from the now-dead male. There was certainly no love-loss there.

He returned the nod to his Alpha female, offered more to Charon and Floki, before turning to depart from the group. It had been a while since Dash had been on a journey that long, and he intended to rest for a little while.

Last from me

My last as well! :)

Although Floki lingered at Charon's side for a moment, it soon became clear that this interaction was meant to be private. It all came down to Charon avenging Amekaze's attacker -- and Floki knew, even without it being explicitly said, that it had been a more intimate assault. For the umpteenth time, he thought of the parallels with Wildfire's situation, but was thankfully returned to the present when he noted Dash's movement.

He followed his packmate with his gaze, then offered a chuff of farewell to Amekaze and Charon. His ears tipped back as he lowered his chin slightly, and then he, too, slipped away to leave the Alpha pair to their own devices.

The silence that settled between them was characteristic of how they were together, how they communicated, how they did things. Words had never been something used much between them, nor needed between them, for some reason. Whenever they were together things simply were good, bar a few bumps in the road that he hoped they could close off now that this was done. The head was cast aside, proof yet in the grand scheme of things, a grim reminder of what had happened. He would later pose it somewhere near the borders, or perhaps within the territories, once the bugs had eaten the flesh from the skull — a warning to anyone who dared thwart him, the emperor of Moonspear, or harm his mate.

Flóki and Dash excused themselves silently and Charon did little to break that silence, offering them both an appreciative nod before he turned towards Amekaze. He nosed her cheek and left the skull to be, for now, taking place beside her and extending the offer of a continuation of her patrol together with a chuff.

That was that. She nodded to the departing males, maintaining her silence carefully yet firm. Charon nosed her first, to which she licked his muzzle back to then she then stepped into motion after watching him. The goal remained clearing her head and resuming where she had left off -- if she still could. It was easier with him now at the very least. She walked with long strides, aching deeply, but persisting, down the route her patrol had held. The skull left behind would interest her more later. For now, they could refresh a few more scent markers before she was inevitably turning in.

A few heavy sighs helped her feel a bit better. She glanced Charon's way, having stayed close as she could, and only paused briefly. With another quick huff, she leaned in enough to bury her muzzle into his speckled ruff. The rest of her leaned against him. She'd missed him. Dearly.

But soon, she slid away and on ahead with an arc to her slow-waving tail. She searched his face over her shoulder, knowing words had no place on her tongue. She hoped he was happy too.

There was a certain numbness to the achievement of finding Lazarus. To know he and Ame had not been able to rend him with their own teeth after all that he had destroyed was not a pleasing thought. But it was better than Goober, whom they'd never found a trace of again. It was something. Yet still he felt very little; maybe it needed to settle still.

He nosed her cheek briefly before joining her on the patrol. His face betrayed little happiness — nor lack thereof — but when he saw her look at him he forced a smile to his face. It was the end of a chapter, and soon, the start of a new one.
