All Welcome

They were allowed to roam further and further seemingly by the day. Lyra relished every chance she got to stray from the rendezvous den and found that she wasn't so often called back immediately anymore. Occasionally she would take her twin sisters with her — once or twice toying with the thought of including Korei — but today she decided to adventure out by herself.

It was late afternoon when she quietly slipped from the den where her litter mates were sleeping and, although the area surrounding the den was thick with the scent of her parents, they were currently nowhere to be seen. With a grin, the escape artist quickly slunk into the trees, blending in the dark undergrowth, eager to explore the lower slopes of the mountain.

lazy circle made without so much as a flap of a wing, save for when the thermals she rode weakened and she steadied herself. above the mountain, her hunter's prowl made with what seemed like tired, casual dips and soars, and yet in reality was nothing but. she saw them, between the trees, wolves, yet had yet to choose a target. and when a pup entered her field of vicion, and he gaze latched onto the small form as she made yet another pass, did her mind make a quick decision.

then she plumetted, an arrow of beather and beak and feirce yellow optics, a sleek missile for the kill. she had waited until the trees, bare as they were ,did not shelter the pup so much before she dived, wings opening with a thud above the girl as the woman alit before her, talons gripping stone as she stared down at the pup.

Unaware that she was being watched from afar, Lyra continued on her trek to the slopes, stopping every so often to sniff at a tree or upturn a rock. Things were still new and interesting to the young girl, even more-so now that they had been moved to the rendezvous den. Still, she was wary of unexpected things, and so jumped back with a gasp as a large shadow swooped along the ground before her.

It landed without a sound save the clicking of sharp talons against rock. Lyra back-peddled away a few steps from the giant creature, though couldn't tear her fearful eyes away from its menacing yellow ones. She was aware of what a bird was and had seen many, but this was one she had never encountered before — or even realised existed! Its sheer size was enough to set the girl quivering and she tucked her tail between her legs meekly, staring up at the stranger. She gave a soft bark, trying to summon up some of the courage Hydra possessed to scare it away, realising instinctively that this was a dangerous creature.

Weak. meek. small.
the perfect prey for another, yet for the huntress, quite boring without challenge. for a brief,  quick moment the fleeting thought of leaving crossed her mind, yet this opportunity was too interesring to waste. a pup, without guardian, sat before her.

then she was moving, a few quick hops forward with a predators speed, talons extended to grasp the pup as he wings sought to get her airborne, and the pup as well, should she succeed in her grab. the pup was of no interest to her, but the others that could be drawn by a child in pain or fear were.

Gaze was locked onto the bird of prey before her as she stood frozen, limbs stiff, unsure of what to do. Her mind was torn between calling for her parents, fleeing or investigating this strange creature further. Curiousity pulled at her in earnest but her fear kept her from saying or doing anything. Maybe it would think her too boring, too small to bother. Did it even eat meat like their kind?

Suddenly, Lyra was rocked into action as the bird leapt forward, sharp nails hitting their mark with a sniper's aim. She barely had time to react, managing only to release a single, panicked, "NO!" as talons gripped the tender skin around her shoulders. The ground was quick to leave her flailing paws as she heaved into the air and the girl let out a blood-curdling shriek for her sisters, for @Charon and @Amekaze, anyone! She didn't even think about being punished for straying so far from the den, she just wanted to get away from this terrifying creature.

Her aim was true,  and soon massive wings beat against the wind, attempting to gain altitude a struggle. normally, her prey was rather dead, easing escape, yet the girl flailed and accent would not be easy. she did not manage to get far, but at the girl's screech she loosed her own shrill cry, eyes cruel.

She tightened her talons a moment in an act of cruelty, gaze not on her bait as she rose, slowly, labourously, struggling to hold the pup a couple meters above the ground. Eagles,  she found quickly,  we're not made for hovering.

Head spun into the air with a curt move as Charon heard the cry. He immediately knew that it was one of his children and that it was urgent; especially after what'd happened with Alya he was on alert. The joining of the bird's cry seconds later made him leap into action and dash from the rendezvous site and into the forest. He followed the path into the forest, dashing through the trees.

In the distance he saw the form of the bird carrying something. He didn't know what it was yet, but did not slow down as he sped towards the bird. "Stop or I'll rip your head off!" he snarled as he ran, remembering talking to birds in his youth and hoping that it would hear him and be intimidated enough; not sure if he would be in time to take it down before it'd lift off through the trees entirely.

It was a surreal feeling, to see the ground from this view — the sensation was overpowered only by the pain that tore at her shoulders as the talons that held her in place tightened their grip. She squirmed and kicked, ears folding back against her head as the eagle released a shattering cry that seemed to reverberate both through the forest and within her skull.

It seemed like hours of frantic struggling, but it only took minutes for her father to respond. At the savage words of Charon which Lyra barely made out, she peeked open an eye, relieved by the sight of the white wolf charging towards her. However, what the bird wanted, she did not know. Would it be able to take her above the trees and far away? Carried off to be eaten by a horde of these creatures? Heart beating rapidly in fear, the pup shrieked to her father as she battered the air some more with her legs. "HELP! DADDY, HELP!"

Another appeared quickly enough, a snowy pelt of the palest silver catching her gaze. Had eagles the ability to smile, she would have then, as she rose high, higher, child in her grasp as she fixed her gaze on the male. Then she plummeted, directly before the male. Just as she reached a tails distance above him did she drop the child directly atop him, only to sweep back up and leave the wolf to deal with the squealing thing.

She rose quickly to assess what her drop of the child had resulted in, soaring in low, tight circles above them, searching for an opening in which to strike again at the larger wolf that was now her target.

It must have been a comical sight, to see the pup fall from the sky atop the very adult that was demanding it back. His words seemed to do little, but it didn't matter to Charon. All that mattered was to have his child back. She was not very heavy yet so he was glad when it was directly atop him that she fell, knowing that at least she landed safely.

His first reaction was to swiftly pick his daughter off his back, on the ground and nose her underneath him as best he could in case something else would happen. "Hide with papa, sweetie, it's gonna be okay," he soothed, managing to keep the panic from his voice even though his heart hammered in his chest. Only when she would be somewhere safer than now he looked around again to see if the threat was still eminent or if the bird had flown.

Adding a quick ending to this!

Thankfully for Charon, puppies were soft and squishy and, in Lyra's case, still quite light. She let out a terrified squeal as the eagle suddenly soared towards her father, feeling its talons loosen their grip. She would have been relieved had she not been so high in the air! With another scream that ended with a grunt, the girl landed awkwardly atop his back after being released from the creature's grasp. She gave no resistance as Charon quickly plucked her from his back and then scrabbled underneath him as quick as she could.

His words instilled no calm within her, eyes watering as she trembled underneath her father. She could see glimpses of the terrifying bird circling above them. With a soft cry, Lyra hid her head between her forepaws and cowered, trying to block everything out as she waited for Charon to scare the mean bird away.

She only peeked out from behind her paws when she felt a gentle lick on her forehead. She glanced, quivering, up at the sky. The creature had disappeared. Questioningly, she looked up at Charon who gave her another reassuring lick before gingerly nosing her back to the den, promising that she was safe now — her father had chased away the big bad.
