All Welcome
He was doing it. Breathing heavily Eljay had left Drageda's borders, feeling guilty to leave his pack behind but knowing that he needed to impress mommy and daddy, and the Heda, too. They would see how fierce he was if he showed up to the war, surely — but he couldn't so easily pull this off. Showing up to the Caldera might get him sent home so Eljay decided he would stay outside of the territory and at least attempt to be sneaky, stay away. He'd find nearby plains and wait 'til they'd pull out to fight, and then he would join them at the last moment. Eljay thought the whole idea silly even as he travelled and he often considered maybe it was time to just go back, turn back, stay home. But nothing was going to happen out there. They'd be safe with or without him, but he couldn't bear the thought mommy might die if he didn't do something... So he had to.

Despite his many doubts to turn back he never did. Eljay'd eaten up before departure and wasn't hungry yet when his weary paws reached Ravensblood Forest. He entered it somewhere round noon and kept going what he thought was south, but wasn't too sure really what direction he was actually headed. By the time darkness found its way to the cold lands Eljay had no clue where he was going anymore and the forest just seemed a blur. It was the shortest route but he was beginning to regret it. Upon hearing a rustle he called out a frightened "hello?!" hoping someone friendly was nearby.

The rustle belonged to Durnehviir Frostfur.

She'd followed the sterling wolf for a time, silent and out of sight, as he trailed aimlessly through the bleeding forest. It was a strange situation; Durnehviir recalled the scent he carried as one belonging to a group from a local pack, one that had travelled through Ravensblood territory some months ago, though she failed to recognise this particular wolf as a member of that particular quartet. He was entirely alone, and seemed... softer, somehow. Gentle. Uncertain, perhaps.

For a moment, she lost sight of him and hurried past a low-hanging branch to try and keep him within view, the leaves accidentally sweeping her back. Cursing under her breath for giving herself away, Durnehviir strode out from among the foliage, frostily pale champagne eyes peering at the stranger within her home. She rumbled to him, a low growl in a request for submission as she prowled closer and arched her feathered tail, upper lip twitching in preparation to bare her fangs should he not lower himself as she requested. While Ravensblood Forest was not yet officially claimed, surely the trespasser would've noticed fresh scents of its inhabitants?

"Hm," the russet wolfess made to circle the grey wolf in a loose ring, "looking for something?"

haha oops, i am so terrible with forming packs because they aren’t showing as clained anywhere yet. not my/his intention, but i’ll just say he was lost in thought!

Eljay hadn’t at all noticed there was any claim here; so he was startled and surprised when the wolf that approached him demanded submission so vividly. Yet he had always been quick to do so, so it did not take him long at all to drop to the ground, tail tucked, eyes averted.

Nervously his tongue lapped at his nose in subconscious sign of submission. At her demanding words he said, ”I... Just looking for... for Blackfeather Woods, I... Is this the right way? I have to leave the forest on the other side than where the sea is.” He wasn’t too sure she’d want to help, but hopefully she wouldn’t be too aggressive, at the least.

Poor Eljay! He is so cute.  <3

The speckled boy dropped to the ground, crouching low and tucking his tail, and Durnehviir let herself relax a little. Although her sharp gaze never left and she continued to look over him, she actually found herself feeling sorry for him as he stammered his hurried words. Certain that she had heard the name of the place he was looking for, the russet wolfess tried to rack her mind for where and when she might have heard it spoken.

Her immediate thought, sorely, was of Viinturuth. And it all pieced together in an instant.

"Let's give the forest a wide berth," her uncle had told her as they made to pass by, when they'd headed East to round the mountains toward Swiftcurrent Creek at the end of Summer, in the final stretch of their time as travelling companions. "The Blackfeather wolves might not appreciate seeing my face around these parts again."

Viinturuth had settled there for a brief time, she recalled, before he took his leave without a word to move on in his usual fashion. Twitching her nose, Durnehviir huffed softly through her nostrils. "I know of the place," she told the ashen stranger, tail-tip twitching with curiosity, "but not entirely sure how you'd get there from here. If I were you, I would continue South. Follow the mountains."

She paused in her tracks, a frown tugging the corners of her mouth downward. Leaning in closer, the tawny Frostfur sniffed the cool silver fur of the boy's shoulder. "Your pack-mates passed through here a few months ago, seemed to be going that way too. What is so important down there?"

Eljay felt immense relief when the wolf that’d found him relaxed somewhat and paused to give instructions. He wondered if maybe she was from a nearby pack, unaware yet that he was in it. Not only did she know how to get out of the forest but she also seemed to know the place that he was going. South, along the mountains, Eljay memorised.

There was one more big thing on his mind though; He had no idea where south was. ”Thank you so much! I... I’m sorry for being — for not knowing this but... Where is south from here? Is - do you think you could show me out of the forest?” The whole reason Eljay had got lost, after all, was because he no longer could tell landmarks in here and had never learned how to tell directions.

He thanked her, then bombarded her with questions without answering the one she'd asked him. Furrowing her brow in frustration, Durnehviir pulled back her lips to reveal a warning flash of her pearly fangs, and lifted a slender foreleg to move around him carefully once more. "You have crossed into our territory," she warned him, "and you are lucky that I found you, because the others might not be as lenient."

She growled lowly, ginger ears laced back and tail flagging the air as it arched proudly over her sleek hinquarters. "So I'll ask you again: why are you heading that way?"

"Oh!" Eljay said with widened eyes, making himself a bit smaller again as he realised what she was saying. He hadn't ever before done that, but he must've by accident somehow. "I'm so sorry, I... I mean, I didn't... I must've..." He tried to piece together words, but it wasn't coming very easy for him as he didn't know what to say. He also realised that he'd angered her again, especially when she said she was asking a repeat question that he didn't remember answering the first time.

He stayed low by the ground and submissively licked his lips as he explained. "My pack — they're going to fight with uhm, Blackfeather Woods, a pack with wolves that're... That did things to my cousin, so they're going to avenge her, I think." Truthfully, Eljay only knew Wiffle'd got hurt and his parents and the Heda were going to hurt the wolves who'd done it. He mostly went there to impress the Heda and his parents though; although Eljay also really wanted to make sure mommy didn't get hurt again.

Sorry I've delayed this so long, I suck.  :(

When he did as she asked and answered her stern question, Durnehviir veered in closer to the ashen wolf to hover ominously over him. She growled lowly and leaned in close, her breath on his neck, a rumbling warning not to cross her again.

The ashen boy did not, however, test her patience any firther, and so the sleek Frostfur made a decision to get him out of her territory as quickly as possible. She drew back, though remained near enough to nip at him should he not do as she requested, and motioned with a cant of her head in the direction she intended to escort him. "Go," she ordered, making no comment on his reasons for travelling South, though she did wonder if he was deliberately disobeying his Alpha's decision to leave him at home. "Straight that way. I will follow you until the edge of the woods, then you're on your own."

no prob! fade here? :) feel free to tack on another reply or archive this as is!

Eljay's legs were shaking as she zoned in on him, afraid that this might be the end for him. But then she told him to go and without further ado Eljay immediately scrambled to his feet and turned around. He started running while he heard her say that way but he had no idea what way she was pointing at. His heart thudded in his chest as he kept running, and it was only by sheer luck that he happened to be running in the right direction. He didn't stop running until he reached the exit of the forest, after which he continued to run for a little bit longer until Eljay was sure he'd lost her.
