Bhediya was saying something in a foreign tongue which never used to bother Ibis, although for a split-second she was deeply jealous of this magical sound and its immediate connection between the two women. Ibis' attention shifted from the sound of her friend's voice to the sight of the stranger, and studied her for a second or two. She was satisfied quickly enough - Hello, are you a friend of Bhediya's? The question was rhetorical, but the sway of Ibis' whippy tail was sign enough of good fortune.
