maybe a @Lafayette? <3
the twin boy lay between her paws. she had carried him to the edge of the tangle, letting the others range out behind her. it would soon be time for a sea-outing, to let the babies wander in the salt that would be their birthright.
chani had come home, but she had not yet seen sobeille, and pondered this as the sunrise glistened to morninglight.

hi mama <3
the salt-laden air in his lungs was like an elixir; he breathed it in as if he were starving for oxygen, tiny nostrils flared, little mouth slightly agape.
he looked up at his mother, muzzle turned to the sky, the whites of his eyes showing stark against his pelt.
he was darkening upon his face and extremities, though the rest of his pelt still burned deep and vivid red. just like maman. he would soon be proud of their resemblance;
for now, though, he marveled at the new atmosphere.
ahh,he remarked wordlessly, mouth splitting to reveal teeth slowly erupting in those infant jaws.

hi bb<333
he was taking on the scarlet of her, the blood-red tones which marked so many among sapphique. and with time, perhaps the reddening might sweep out from their shores.
she blew air over the small belly of her baby boy, over each paw, and a lighter breath to feather upon eyelid and eartip.
"you grow so fast!" and her voice took now the lilting croon of an old french song which erzulie had once sung to she and her own siblings.

he babbled along with the song. he didn't know the melody, nor the words. but it was something that would bury itself into his bones and brains—
into the shore itself.
he sighed happily upon the sea-breeze, lips growing wide in a grin.
into the shore itself.
aahh ahhh ah,he mimicked, barely, then added a feeble,
maman.

"lafayette!" she crooned, and let her voice slip into sirening waves of light that drifted.
it would speak to her son of mothers and of sisters, she hoped.
and of her own joyous heart.

his eyes met hers, sea-green into sea-green. she sang of mothers and sisters to this son; would he inherit their fierceness, or the cowardice of those who had left?
he didn't know any of that now, though, and was roused to sleep by the gentle ebb and flow of her song.

maman,he whispered again, and tumbled into dreams.

cradled, she rocked lafayette gently. motherhood thus dar had come easily to mireille. she credited the generations of feminine peace behind them all, lifting her voice in another lullaby as she gathered the pups softly into a sleeping pile.
