Sialuk had adapted well to sight. She took everything in as much as she could, and she spent much of her time romping with her best friend and sibling, Saviguk. She wrestled him often, doing her best to get the upper hand whenever she could. Yes, she was a competitive one. She might be missing a toe, and she might have had a week or two under the spell of a fever, but it hadn't slowed her down one bit.

Oh, and now there was sound! She could finally hear when her mother and father spoke, even if she didn't have a clue what they were saying. Some words were spoken more than others, of course. "Sialuk" was the one that she had associated with herself, and then there was "Saviguk" for her brother. Said sweetly, they were a good thing. Said sternly, it meant somebody was in trouble.

Growing bored (and probably in need of a nap), Sialuk began yapping incessantly at whoever was around to hear her do it.
