Seal was shuttling supplies from one encampment to the next when the most surprising sounds began to undulate from a small copse of trees. At first, it sounded like someone was injured. A low moan. Shuttered breaths. Was someone hurt? In pain?

Concerned, she tip-toed over and pushed back a pelt with her nose, only to spy the most shocking picture. Ariadne under a man! Doing the thing!

Seal sucked in a breath and wheeled backward, mortified that she had stumbled upon such a private event. Her face went red hot and the girl quickly stalked away, not wanting to be discovered.

seal was not alone.
maggak, innocently, had snuck up on her. she came at a slow prowl, shoulders bunched and eyebrows knit together in determination. she wanted to be like the hunters. she sought to pounce upon her packmate in hopes of inciting girlish play!—
until she, too, heard it.
oh-so-oblivious, maggak speed-crawls closer with ears cupped forward in utter fascination as seal begins to scramble. she listens for a moment until a sickly feeling churns in her belly. then, she proceeds to bound after her, and very loudly asks: what was that sound, seal?

Curious of the sounds himself, Raiyuk had put aside some of his work and hurrying to-and-fro to seek out the cause of them. They were strange; although familiar in a way too, and when he caught a glimpse of two bodies together like that — well this wasn't the front of a classroom of his peers, but the boy felt a tension in his belly that he knew.

What was that sound...? A little voice?

His face warmed, and he tried to look away as quickly as he could. He reversed awkwardly, stumbling because it was hard to walk; and that was when he came face-to-face with — Seal?

Oh. Oh no. Not now! Uhhhh -- he looked one way then another, trying to arrange himself so that she couldn't see -- well, anything; and found himself staring at the ground. There was a child just beyond her and suddenly Raiyuk was positioning himself to block their view of the couple instead.

Flight sent adrenaline coursing through Seal’s body. She wanted to escape A.S.A.P! She slunk low, tail curled beneath her as she tactically ninja-crawled away.

What was that sound, Seal? Maggak’s loud voice framed her at the scene of the crime.

Seal whipped around to see the juvenile on her heels. How much had she witnessed?

“It was no-nothing!” she said, flustered without an ounce of composure. Her mom had been calm and factual when explaining the birds and the bees, but Seal felt so unequipped! Her face flushed red hot, completely bewildered.

Maybe because she had secretly wanted to see more?

Seal shook her head, utterly confused, until she practically ran into Raiyuk. Her heels dug into the dirt to keep herself from being thrown over him.

It was then she caught sight of Raiyuk’s angry fifth leg and Seal’s soul practically left her body.

The girl violently shoved Raiyuk as he side-stepped away and stood in front of him, adding a third layer to block Ariadne and Kalukutuk’s escapades. She turned back to Maggak. “M-Maggak, why don’t you check on Ajei?” she pleaded. “I think she needs help w-with, uhm, …something!”

while she had initially been curious, maggak now became interrogative. her lips turn downward into a scowl as her gaze finds the boy raiyuk, who was being... equally as weird. both of them look as if they may implode.
tail flicking angrily, the starlet puffs her chest out in retaliation as she turns back to the flustered lump known previously as seal. she tries to distract her with mentions of — ajei, whoever that was! maggak was not buying it!
was that guy hurting her? she points with a jut of a foreleg back in the direction of ariadne and kaluktuk's camp. are you protecting him? i'll kill him! and then i'll tell anaa!

Raiyuk and Seal shared one look before they were both facing the child, and in that next instant Raiyuk was glad to hide himself behind her, and use his body to block the view. The sounds reached a crescendo and then there was a lull; but the boy focused himself on what Maggak was saying, and trying to stop them from getting close again.

As the son of a man with multiple wives, certain things were kept private from him but certain things were not. Raiyuk was therefore not ignorant to what the adults were doing in their camp — but he didn't know how to diffuse the curiosity bordering on protective interest that came now from Maggak.

It was not hurting— He answered the girl, and gave Seal a sheepish glance as if to ask her, what do I do? What do I say? It was love-making. A husband and wife.... Do that. Adults do that. He tried to play it off as if this wasn't a big deal (and to Raiyuk it really wasn't, he held no hangups on the concept overall) but he worried if this was the best way to tell someone about the... process.

The boy cleared his throat. We really should not be here. Thankfully the expression of his body was lessening, although Raiyuk felt a hot embarrassment for being here at all. Lets go uh, help with the hunt preparations. Seal -- he looked at her quickly again, but couldn't hold his eyes upon her, You were helping with the medicine? The women's camp.

Maybe they could talk about anything else to draw Maggak's attention away.

Seal devolved into a useless puddle of nerves on the ground. Though her attempt to deflect Maggak was weak, she did her very best. However, the spicy young girl wasn’t having any of what Seal offered. She threatened to kill! To tattle!

“N-no!” Seal retorted. Begged.

This is it, Seal told herself. I’m dead. I’m dying. Take me away, Sedna. I’m finished.

Just as she was about to come to terms with her imminent death by embarrassment, Raiyuk saved the day by leveraging his square, objective personality.

Seal got down on her knees.

Dear God,

Thank you for Raiyuk.

Amen.

She exchanged a desperate glance with her friend without anything to add. Raiyuk had more tact in his pinky than Seal did in her entire body and she eagerly passed him the wheel.

As he calmly explained the scenario for real, Seal felt her blood pressure decrease. His matter-of-factness really saved the day.

“Raiyuk's right, Maggak” she admitted. “They do… do that. Love making. Just for adults.” Seal parroted Raiyuk since she only had one brain cell left.

She was especially oh-so-thankful when he said they should go. "Yes," Seal agreed robotically. "Medicine. The women's camp. Come on, Maggak, they need privacy."

the frazzled young girl began to ease. love-making.
love-making? maggak quirks a brow. was this merely a ruse? she switches from staring at seal to side-eyeing raiyuk with a titilated jadestone gaze. what is that?
they try to deter her, but maggak was not stupid. she stands firm, and to cement her determination, she plants her hind firmly upon the ground. she needed to know. she would know! maggak did not want medicine, she wanted answers!

What else could he say! Had nobody taught the girl any of this? Where was her mother or father? Raiyuk was not so embarrassed, because his father had talked to him openly about these things. It felt wrong now only because of their proximity to the couple in the act, and the presence of Seal which made Raiyuk flush with uncertainty.

The girl would not move without answers. It is the act between two adults to make their children. A very matter-of-fact answer. He could not look at either of them as he said it. The woman wants to carry children, so the man gives them to her. It is better to ask your anaa. This was not something Raiyuk should share! But perhaps he should get used to this, as soon he would be a big brother.

It seemed they weren’t getting out of this so easily.

Seal felt equally uncomfortable as Raiyuk for all the same reasons. It felt wrong to talk about such private things with her childhood friend, and so near Ariadne’s camp.

She fidgeted uncomfortably as Raiyuk did his best to explain the act without specifics. Seal noticed his lack of eye contact despite his objective tone.

Feeling bad that he had to step up in such a way, Seal finally gave in and gestured Maggak closer with a wave of her paw. She cupped her muzzle close to the girl's ear and began to whisper all of the specifics (well, the very least she could get away with) until Maggak was finally satisfied enough to budge.

The three scuttled away, but Seal was left with very vivid imagery of both Ariadne having sex as well as Raiyuk’s wild willy. She would most likely avoid her friend for the rest of the hunt, too embarrassed to face him.
