Redhawk Caldera fishy business

After the storm, things had quieted down for the pup. He'd had a lot of frightening experiences and so he tended to stay fairly close to home, but sometimes he dared venture out, when his parents accompanied him, or when he found someone else to. At times, he'd go out alone, but he never went far and often came scrambling right back home when things got too much.

Today the pup sat outside of the den when he suddenly noticed something off not far from the den. He looked about him to make sure that nothing scary would happen when he ventured out into the open, and then trotted towards the oddity in the landscape.

It turned out to be a half-eaten fish. What the pup didn't know was that it was one of the fish that had died when the lake had been partially drained, and it had been taken along by another predator. After only a few bites they had decided it was no good, and they'd dumped it here, for the pup to find.

Although often his meat was still tenderised for him, the pup did eat meat, and so he easily identified it as 'food'. Sadly, he did not identify it as 'probably not a very good idea to eat', since it was rotten and smelly. The pup wrinkled his nose as he smelled the fish, realising that something was weird about it, but he did not realise what. And so the pup arched his neck towards it and took a careful bite from the smelly, rotten fish.
