The Patriarch warmed faster at the quiet thanks the orange-breasted wolf, Oath, had given him.
That was all it took; A simple thank you and and a heart-felt story about wanting to protect a friend. Perhaps if he was any other man Greyback would of turned them away with more than a stern talking to, but he was not that. He was a leader now, only gaining such a position from his gentle nature to those around him and Valette. He was an oldened wolf who found it hard to deny sanctuary to whose when they were clearly both young. So inexperienced.
But he stood there, still stone faced as usual till an abrupt sound of clashing feet and a fearsome tone tore him from his quaking gaze. It was Valette who addressed him, and never before had he heard such a tone come from her normally steady throat. He turned to face her, surprised with the sharpness that she held while saying his name. "Regret considering their plea to join," he replied, albeit softer than his normal tone. He knew how it looked. While he was Patriarch and able to make decisions, Valette remained the Matriarch and higher on the ranking order. The thought of disobeying her made his paws seize in the snow, and he hoped she was not upset with him.
He waited to hear her response while casting a glance to Merrit once more, meeting his eyes with a brow raised. Once more the elder was caught by surprise today; He had never heard to raven apologize, nor had he seen the look he currently wore. Perhaps he too was sharing the same inner turmoil about Valette.
He only sighed after. "Merrit did well for not being experienced in this situation. And while these two—" Greyback turned to the pair to see them tucked into the snow, their bodies pressed together in an effort to seem small. "—did trespass I believe they are young and inexperienced as well." Greyback glanced back to Valette with his brows furrowed in sympathy, hoping she would take pity on them as he did. "They are starving, my love. Look how young they are."
