It was just like the rain, but worse. Colder. Seemingly more relentless. Gone was the lightning that split across the sky, the rumbling thunder, the deluge that soaked all in its path. In its place, a blanket of white that grew more dense by the day. Frigid, shrieking winds. Snowfall that was sometimes blinding in its intensity.
A lull in the tempest—maybe only momentary—allowed Lilitu to leave the den and trudge out into the depths.
Brrrr! It was unpleasant at first. Soon, however, as she found her footing, she began to enjoy it. Her fur had grown thick enough to give her some warmth against the weather, even as she was chest-deep in snow. She barreled through, sending a pale spray behind her.
Her giggles filled the air, a welcome respite from winter's haunting silence. She rolled, leaving a deep imprint behind. She leapt and dived like a fox seeking prey. She snapped at the stuff with curious jaws, fascinated by how it turned to water on her tongue.
The flowers and fields were gone, true. . .but this wasn't so bad.
