Aventus flinched from the ringing in his ears, and not only from the howling. Since awakening from his fall in Stillrift, the ringing was near constant. The first few days were accompanied with splitting headaches and hallucinations both auditory and visual. Even now, occasionally he would see something in the corner of his eye or hear the voice of someone who was dead. The paranoia that accompanied it had him permanently on edge.

He was convinced his sister's voice was similar to the other illusions, but he went anyway. His body was fit, but the edges of the world frayed in his vision. It was a slow and dizzy procession to the borders, where he was shocked to see her.
