Occurs parallel to this.

Off went the dam and sire on some crusade. Off went Avicus, too, following after them. Aventus watched her go with lazy silver eyes. He could sneak, too, and go unseen far more easily than her, but he wasn't very interested in whatever they were doing. Since bringing the wretched pissants into his life, Aventus had distanced himself considerably from both his parents, conveying his contempt for their decision in his complete disinterest in their affairs.

Even the one-eyed dragon, who these days wasn't quite so frightening as he'd once been, on account of Aventus' rapidly elongating figure. Aventus' interest in his sire's fierce agenda waned with each day that Merrick tolerated the invading duo in his home.

With a silent yawn and a stretch, Aventus quit the rendezvous. He could've probably found the squealing whelps and tormented them, but it never occurred to him that there was no one present to stop him from killing one of them. Instead, he made his way to the valley's sole exit and departed entirely. His family's trail went 'round the valley's northern wall, so Aventus directed his paws the other way, toward a thick forest looming in the foothills. The first shrill scream pierced the darkness only when he'd gone a considerable way in. It made him pause, ears standing at attention. Was that the sound Glaucous or Astyanax would make when he peeled their hides free?

He licked his chops, excited, and began to prowl.
