augur was content to lose himself for several hours.

when they parted he was ravenous. but he was also loathe to leave her. instinct bid him stay close, and fascination with her brutish size and heavy jaws kept his eyes often upon her.

in the plains beneath the rise were three bison. one was smaller than the others, a male. he had been gored by another bull. even from his perch augur could see the botflies feasting upon the deep wound of the animal's right shoulder.

a bison was a beast who might immediately kill one of them. but augur was a giant himself and one encouraged to recklessness by @Diesel's scent.

he nudged her cheek and set casually off down the small ridgeline, directly toward the bison.
