Oddly, Towhee was excluded from this treatment for reasons Phox couldn't even begin to comprehend. If it was an age bias, it didn't make a lick of sense.

Niamh's yawning did not go unnoticed, and a look of concern washed over his face. He had been out of earshot when Towhee had asked the question to Quixote, but it occurred to him now that Towhee was the beta, and she probably should have been consulted in all this. There had been three leaders, and Quixote had made the decision on his own that Niamh needed to step down. It put a sour taste in Phox's mouth, one that only seemed to be getting stronger.
