It was slow-going. Penn wasn’t used to traveling with his limitations, as much as he thought he’d been learning to overcome them on the beach. He’d clearly been fooling himself, but he was well aware that it was not the first time, nor would it be the last, he was acting a fool. He’d thought many times of just turning back. Life on the beach hadn’t been that horrible. Just quiet. And boring. And horrible.

No, going back wasn’t an option. He couldn’t get his conversation with Druid out of his mind. Everything had been fine until he’d asked about her family. He’d seen the way she wilted upon hearing the question. He’d watched her leave almost immediately, as though she were fleeing from more than just the conversation. Trying to go after her was hopeless. Trying to track down Druid’s mother and siblings (he assumed she had them) was also hopeless.

But, here we are.

He trekked slowly through the sentinels, weaving steadily around the trees. Every little noise made him jump, and he glanced all around himself almost constantly as though he knew there was a hit out in him and the assassins would be diving down at him from the treetops at any moment. It was extremely annoying, but he couldn’t seem to stop.

After a while, he dropped to his haunches and huffed in frustration, once again wishing that god damn inspiring as fuck hermit crab hadn’t washed up at his feet so he could’ve just carried on being useless and alone with only coconuts as friends until he died.
