All Welcome
“Are you sure they wouldn’t want to leave? Maybe they’ll be relieved to move somewhere without all sorts of painful memories.”

Her own words nipped at her heels as Moonspear vanished into the distance behind her. Her anaa had only found her happiness upon leaving, her taataa too. Could Tiuttuk find the same if she left the village? It felt like sacrilege to consider it, though she couldn’t explain why, even to herself.

The weather remained favorable as she crossed through Bramblepoint and finally approached Redhawk Caldera. Her eyes scanned its sloping sides almost dubiously, though she had to admit that it bore a certain resemblance to her beloved birthplace.

It had been so long… was it possible her father and @Amalia had already welcomed a litter? Would she meet her younger siblings today? Pie bit at her lip as she hovered near the base of the extinct volcano, hesitating. What if this place tempted her, especially after… well, everything?

Shoving that thought aside, she drew in a deep breath and called for @Killdeer.

The call invoked equal amounts of joy and nerves in his heart, but upon seeing his elder daughter for the first time in a while, the scales tipped dramatically toward the former. Killdeer approached with a happily-wagging tail, a smile upon his face, and an embrace for her (if she'd allow).

It's good to see you, Treepie, he greeted warmly. I'm sorry I haven't visited the Spear. Lots to do here, and of course I wanted to give you your space.

She looked well, which heartened him, and there was no sign of any sort of bad news weighing upon his shoulders. Of course, he'd heard about the deaths of Kukutux and Aiolos through the grapevine; the loss of Moonwoman had no doubt left a cavernous void not just among the moon-packs, but their allies as well.

Still, life went on.

How are you? Killdeer asked. How are things?

When her smiling father appeared and reached for her, Tiuttuk didn’t hesitate to reach back. Feeling a little like an exposed nerve, she clung to him tightly for a moment before the inevitable release. Pie steadied herself with a breath as Killdeer immediately apologized by way of greeting.

You don’t have to apologize, taataa. I didn’t come here either, she said quietly, chest tight, and I’m grateful you gave me that space to process.

Hopefully that absolved any lingering guilt he might feel about it. Tiuttuk didn’t want her father to feel bad for chasing his happiness any more than she blamed Sialuk for going after her own. Did she wish they’d found it a little closer to her and Moonspear? Yes, though she had moved on.

I feel as though I inherited the shadow that weighed on anaa when she was still here, Tiuttuk admitted baldly when he asked for updates. I don’t know how to feel about the village anymore, taataa, but I don’t think I want to talk about it today. I came here to see you. I want to hear all about you, Amalia and the life you’re building here.

She gazed past him, eyes rising up the caldera’s nearer flank, before her yellow eyes dropped back to her dad’s face. She smiled wanly, the tip of her tail flicking back and forth as she waited on tenterhooks. Did she have new siblings? Would they want her to meet them? Could it change everything?
