Firefly Ravine Steady as a needle dropping on a vinyl

Her eyes traced the path of the river gorge northward, noting its disappearance into a patch of trees on the horizon. Trees were good. One of those giant sequoias might have fallen across the gorge, providing her a bridge across. That would be a decent option. 

Lane then traced the river back southward, and as she turned, she immediately caught sight of the fluffy, white, wagging stranger. Lane had been a bit avoidant of strangers in last week or so, just because everyone seemed to have some judgemental opinion on her pregnancy that they just had to share. 

In spite of herself, Lane smiled. She wagged her tail in return, unable to resist the other woman's infectious happiness. "Going across?" she called hopefully. With any luck, the stranger was a local who could impart the best path across the gorge and into the Taiga.
