With Towhee gone—only for a time, Phox reminded himself—the Redhawk busied himself with work. He frequented the caches to make sure they were well-stocked. Today, he set off to find some small game and work on filling one of the caches that was down to just a few scraps. He'd been scouting out this beaver dam for a few weeks now, and he was pretty sure one of the older ones would make a good meal.

In the brush, he lurked, watching as the fat-tailed creatures worked on their strange wooden homes.
