Sea Lion Shores crashing and breaking waves

she paced along the shore, inhaling deep with the tide, exhaling hard as it drew back into the sea — imagining that it was the power of her breath that did so, though auk knew it was the tide that ruled her. either way, the crashing and breaking waves mirrored the turmoil within her chest except that the steady rhythm of the waves was calming, reminding her of her power. within her breast, the waves of emotion were chaotic, discordant, confused.

auk wanted a fight. her mismatched gaze was on the alert, knowing the signs of sea lion but seeing none. she watched for bobbing heads in the water, wanting to give chase, wanting to break her body upon them. at least then the physical pain would be a release.

and if they killed her, so be it. she didn't care.

but there were none, and her angry gaze remain fixed upon the shore as she wound an agitated labyrinth in the cold, wet sand.

Their only official claim was over the island, but based on frequent interactions (and possible hunts) within the sea lions' domain, Ying thought that was equally worth protecting. She planned to head inland for a few days, but made a small detour to see how the creatures fared.

The unfamiliar frame of another woman put the guardian on edge. She watched through scrutinizing gaze as the slyph drew closer, agitation apparent in her gait. Ying decided that her approach was both necessary and worthwhile, and so moved confidently to be in the stranger's line of vision.

Orochi has returned to the shore for one reason and that was food. Somewhere laying amongst the sand was the sea lion carcass. He had eaten a good handful of it, but there was still plenty more when he left for the island. He had grown hungry and restless after a few days; this was a good excuse to stretch his legs and fill his belly.

He had searched every nook and cranny of the beach and he had yet to find his meal. The beasts that were alive had vanished as well, leaving him with nothing.

Orochi cursed under his breath as he stumbled across the shore. When he lifted his head he spotted two figures. At first he thought he had found his missing food, but that hope was quickly replaced with anger when he realized what it was. It was that foul smelling woman and a stranger. They probably ate up the rest of his food. Orochi approached from behind the stranger, tail arched over his back and growling.

she halted as another entered her line of sight with a confident, purposeful gait. auk watched suspiciously, though turned her lowered head slightly, wordless and allowing her body to speak -- i am not a threat. she was agitated and angry and wished for a physical pain to mirror her insides, yes... but not at the teeth of her kin. she worked to control her breath, to soften her eyes, but the effort was great. please, she thought. just move on and let me be.

but a growl sounded close behind her, and the fragile control auk had over herself broke. startled, for she had been so focused on the she-wolf before her, the wild siren spun around with hackles raised. a growl loosed from her throat in return, instinctive, moments before her fire-and-ice gaze landed upon another. she made no advance upon the male, but auk slipped into a defensive posture, beginning to move backwards toward the shore with the goal of keeping both strangers within her sights.

Orochi's intimdating presence was welcomed until it wasn't. The woman showed her submission, backed away from whatever fight she'd once sought. It was a satisfactory response for Ying, who had hoped to keep their encounter civil. She barked for the three-legged man to halt and regardless of his response, took a few steps closer with hackles still on edge.

She sniffed the air to detect the scent of a pack but found nothing worth noting. Their claim was not yet official, but Ying was willing to conduct herself as though it were— would Orochi do the same? She stole a quick glance to see what he was making of the situation but waited to react further.

A smug grin spread across his face when the woman whipped around. It always felt nice when he caught someone off guard, even more so when they submitted to him. That doesn't happen often (let's face it, that never happens).

He wanted to get a quick snap at her, just to boost his confidence a little more, but Ying's bark stopped him. Orochi grumbled and rolled his eyes. Whatever, he didn't need to fight this woman anyways. He doubted she'd touch around his kill—if it was still there—with them around.

What the hell are you doing here? he snapped, shooting a glare at the stranger.

Orochi's temper didn't sit well with Ying. She thought that he was too volatile, too much of a liability. He barked his question and she remained silent, carefully examining the stranger between them. 

Go away from here, she told the woman, You are too close to our island. Assuming Auk then made her exit, Ying turned to @Orochi and brushed his shoulder, chuffing quiet praise.
