The pittering and pattering of raindrops on the lawn drew Aventus out of the den in spite of the chilly breeze that rushed down into their sleeping quarters. The first droplet that plonked onto his nose sent him reeling with shock, but once he flicked his tongue against his nostrils and realized it was only water, his head popped out of the hole once more.
Tap, tap, tap went the rain as it bonked him gently on his head, ears and cheeks. He watched, fascinated, as ripples spread across a nearby puddle, and before he even realized he'd moved, he was peering intently at the surface as the rain fractured it again and again. He was so mesmerized that when a toad hopped abruptly into the puddle and splashed his paw, he sucked his breath in with a surprised whoop and practically had a heart attack then and there.

Skoll was a silent ghost in the rain. The sounds of the dropletts hitting the ground drowned out his already painfilly silent steps. The water underfoot chilled his paw pads slightly, though it didn't bother the ghostly man. His eyes were currently glued to the being that had wandered outside of the den that they were stuck within.
One of the spawn of Merrick - the ones the man had been freaking out about before. Skoll hadn't bothered trying to visit, or trying to view the young that belonged to the pack. It wasn't his responsibility to watch the children that belonged to the pack. It was his job to plan for dangerous situations, his job to figure out strategy for when and if they got invaded or had scuffles with another pack.
His eyes watched as the child seemed to get scared from the water that splashed around them as the rain poured down. Sitting on his haunches, he watched to see what happened next. He didn't yet have a reason to approach.
@Aventus

Before his heart rate had a chance to normalize, it leaped again when he spotted a stranger lurking near. Incredibly tall and thin as a rail, Skoll cut an intimidating figure only for the abnormality of his appearance. Both Astara and Merrick were decently fed wolves and neither towered in that fashion. Aventus blinked owlishly and swayed in place, paws frozen to the wet loam.
He couldn't help it when his eyes wandered curiously to the white splotches that adorned Skoll's throat and chest, but it was a swift observation. His gaze quickly returned to the vicinity of the lofty man's face, hovering around his nose in an effort to read his intentions. Aventus wasn't experienced enough to know anything, though, and soon what little nerve he had failed him and he lowered his belly to the sodden grass and pressed back his large ears, prostrating himself before Skoll. Ever a shy and submissive cub, looking to avoid unwanted attention by acknowledging his role... for now, it seemed.

The child stopped moving, shortly making eye contact with the tall man. He must have looked like a giant in front of the small child, though he could be considered a giant in front of most. Truthfully, Skoll didn't have any intentions. He didn't understand children. So, when the young boy lowered down, submissive, he was surprised. Both of that kids' parents were terrifyingly dominant.
"You don't have to do that, kid." He voiced out. Was the boy even old enough to understand that?

Merrick and Astara being terrifyingly dominant might just be the reason their son wasn't. How could a creature get along seamlessly with the mighty if they tried to outdo them at every turn? It was a recipe for strife, and Aventus wasn't an especially confrontational child. Oh, yes, with Avicus he could be quite challenging, but not with his parents.
Certainly not with strapping, dark strangers.
So in spite of Skoll's words, Aventus remained low to the ground. That didn't stop him from slinking forward to where the man's large paw crushed the grass underfoot. Snaking his tiny muzzle forward, Aventus gingerly sniffed at Skoll's toes, taking stock of the man and everywhere he'd recently been.
