Ouroboros Spine Love is all you need to destroy your enemies

When his mother drew her last breath, Aventus felt a hole tear through his soul.

It stopped him in his tracks, one paw suspended. He sucked in a breath and reeled on the lakeshore. He could not describe it if he was asked to, only at that precise moment, the sum of every ill feeling he had ever experienced coalesced into helpless dread in his stomach. He knew, without any need for confirmation, that something terrible had just occurred. Aventus could not say why he was so certain of it, nor could he say what exactly it was or who it involved or where, but his certainty that something had happened was absolute.

He turned from his pursuit of fish toward Silvertip Mountain and lurched into motion. He marched with a single-minded purpose up the slope to the borders of Moonglow, and then past them, and then down the other side. With every passing moment, his heart beat harder and his legs churned faster, until he was flying through the pine trees and careening up the mountainside.

Aventus did not know how he knew it, but he was needed home now, and his mission in Moonglow was no longer of any consequence.
