Pox was immensely fascinated by this exchange between the multi-generational trio of Elwoods. So much in fact that he forgot all about trying to climb onto the log for a time and plopped onto his haunches to watch it unfold. He thought very little of his older brother--the guy had always been a major bummer, and he was far too young to feel any empathy towards him. So when Elfie challenged him (like the most coolest older cousin in the entire universe, I might add), Pox crowed and laughed like the excited bystander he was, thinking this all great fun indeed!

"Uh huh!" Sugar agreed with Avery's remark, tail wiggling as she continued combing her feet through the rich, loose soil. Soon her tiny white toes were filthy and the scent of fresh earth filled her nostrils. She sighed happily and paused to glance over at Finley, who appeared to be searching for something.
Although curious about her mother's quest, Sugar Glider's attention returned to the task at hand. She resumed her digging, pulling out several roots and setting them aside. When her muscles eventually begged for a rest, she noticed that the coiled rhizomes made a sort of nest. Without hesitation, she stepped into it, circled thrice and then settled.
The sounds of the tense conversation over yonder wasn't altogether too different from the background noise of the den they'd all shared. From a distance, the faint buzz was actually soothing to Sugar. Despite the newness of the surroundings, the general excitement of the day's events, and the slight lumpiness of her makeshift bed, the tiniest Blackthorn drifted off to sleep.

Avery followed her sister's lead in more ways than one -- not only did she dig and dig and dig for quite a while, but when she noticed Sugar slowing down and eventually stopping, she did the same. Her forelegs were tired and her muscles were burning, but it was sort of pleasant. She felt accomplished, even though all she had done was create a big ol' hole.
She watched as Sugar curled up on the pile of dirt and roots she had unearthed, and didn't hesitate to join her. She stepped over to her sister and tucked herself against Sugar's back, curling around her and resting her chin on her shoulderblades. She gave a contented sigh and closed her blue eyes; within moments, she was asleep too.
