Raleska didn’t know what she expected. Solace? Commiseration? It was unfair to expect either of these from Dacio, yet still, her heart was heavy with hurt. At least now, things were in the open. At least now, he might understand why and what had driven her to truly turn away from her past. 

She hedged a sigh into the cold air, her gaze flickering from Dacio’s to the darkness about them. Her ears reactively pulled back as he scooted closer; his silence as pressing as his presence. 

It’s all over. Raleska announced brokenly to no one in particular, suppressing the quiet cry that threatened to steal from her throat. Were she less stubborn she might have thrown herself into Dacio’s embrace, ready to cry — but a wild part of her did not wish to appear weak before him.
