It wasn't long before she saw his hulking form moved out from the shadows of the forest, and her heart slammed against the sides of her chest. His appearance didn't exactly assure her that things would be peaceful, either. It made him look sloppy and savage, which was fine when hunting but not so much when addressing visitors at the borders. She wondered if this was the real Donovan. Now that he didn't have to keep up whatever game he had been playing with her, he felt free to show his real self? It made her stomach hurt again and she had to swallow against the feeling. She wanted to answer his question with a yes in that moment, her hurt at being lied to causing anger to swell up in her chest. But this was supposed to be peaceful; at the very least, she didn't want Mal or their allies to get hurt because she reacted impulsively to her anger.
She silently fumed while Huā spoke, answering his question better than she might have right then. She then laid out the reason they were there, and the Kaistleoki leader's words followed soon after. When Mal spoke, she shifted closer to him, her gaze still cold and fixed intently on Donovan. Mal did bring up a good question: did his pack members know of his past? He had kept it from her during all the time they had spent together, so had he also kept it from the wolves who shared his home to ensure that they stayed at his side? Or to Mal's other point: maybe they did know, and they were okay with it. Neither situation was good.
Once the other Kaistleoki leader had finished speaking, she studied Donovan's face. She wondered how he would respond to their demand that he leave? He did always seem fairly reasonable, but then, she couldn't be sure she knew anything real about him. She didn't think there was anything left to say now that the others had spoken, and she was honestly afraid she might make things worse; letting her emotions get the better of her would make her a pretty bad guardian. So she refrained from speaking for now, her gaze still glued to Donovan as she waited for his answer.
