He had no doubt learned some of these things already. He shared his wish of being a brother again, causing Sialuk to breathe a sigh of relief. Maggak seemed indifferent, or at least not against the idea.

They will stay, Sialuk assured him.

She knew, between now and the next year, she would explain how children came about, just as her own mother had. How a man and a woman would share one another's bodies in warmth and kindness. For now, she left it an abstract idea. When they were ready, she had no doubt they would ask more questions about how new life came to be.
