Brooooooncoooooo! shouted Alyx into the trees bordering the rendezvous. It was a sunny mid-morning and she ought to be out admiring the flowers and exploring, normal kid stuff, but instead she had a Super Important task and the only wolf who was up to it was her big bro. It seemed improbable that simply shouting into the woods would summon him to her side, but Alyx wasn't the most logical of thinkers. In fact, at three months old, she rarely thought logically at all.

BRONCO! she hollered more loudly, emphasizing it with an impatient stomp of her left hind foot. Where the heck was that guy?! He was always around! Well, except when he was patrolling and hunting and doing big important adult stuff... but this was so much more important than all that! And it wasn't like she could go looking for him. Sure, she'd left the rendezvous unsupervised before, but that was before Meerkat got the dreaded G-word, and she didn't want to end up stuck here like her sister.
