Part of him felt responsible for anything that might happen to the two women while Chakliux was gone — even if Dutch himself was seldom present. And, even though he still thought of all the children the seal hunter's wives carried as belonging to Chakliux, he felt a certain proprietary protectiveness over the family either way.

Mostly, though, he just wanted Tullik to be safe and happy and comfortable.
