Silence lingered between them. When she suddenly closed the distance, Charon was caught off-guard. A growl rumbled in his throat but it was cut short when she touched the fur on his chest. He felt that all he needed to do was keep himself under control, because Speedy was smart and she would not do such a thing -- she would make sure they were both safe. But no it was her who pressed herself against him as if she needed him, as if she longed for him as much as he longed for her, and he was not sure what to make of it.

He opened his mouth to speak, to say "we shouldn't", to say "I want you", to say anything, but he could not find the words. So instead he stood stiffened at the touch, until eventually he leaned down his head to nuzzle the top of hers.
