She bounded down the coast, tongue lulling out of her mouth in a moment of indulgence. She liked to run, and did it often through the trees of her home, but this was different. The sand offered some resistance and forced her muscles to work harder, but she liked the challenge. The sun was warm, even here, and she could have done without the summer heat, but she tried to ignore it as usual.

Plus, once she was done running, she altered her path and sprinted into the cold ocean water. She released an audible sigh of relief as the cool liquid seeped through her thick coat and quickly removed the heat from her skin. Once she was sufficiently soaked, she moved closer to the shore to where the water was shallow enough that she could lay down in it and her head remained about the level of the water even as the waves moved over her body. It was nice, and she planned to stay in this very spot for an undetermined amount of time.

so this is the source of the scent of the mermaid's coat, then, of which she's caught a faint scent of from the breeze. she hates it. it is wide, blue, unending and yet a finite end in itself. she approaches the sea on stilted limbs, auds pressed forward. its scent is pungent, overbearing, and as she realizes when she reaches the shallows a short distance away from the woman, disgusting.

she pulls her muzzle from the waters, allowing the bitter water to fall from her muzzle as her features distort into a rare display of discontent. her gaze skips over the waves, laced with seafoam, and abruptly come to meet eyes of molten orange. she blinks, caught off guard and out of her element, holding her gaze in disbelief, hackles prickling in the face of this sea-wolf.

She had been watching the stranger's hesitant inspection of the water, noting her looks of disgust and disdain at whatever she found there. Simmik had thought the sea exciting and different; it offered her a place to cool off as well as something different from her usual exploring. She wondered what the other woman found so repugnant about it? A question she would be sure to ask if she got the chance.

But it seemed she was finally spotted, and had unintentionally started the stranger. Of course, she understood. Simmik was a stranger and it seemed she only just suddenly become aware of her presence. Her hackles raised as their gazes met but Simmik didn't respond with any hostility. She merely watched the stranger, her expression calm and inviting. She wanted to portray to the other woman that she meant no harm without getting any closer and possibly starting a fight. She stood and shook the water from her coat, the water level now coming up to only about mid leg. Her tail swayed neutrally against her hocks as she waited to see where this would go.
