dis be a scuttlebug, sobeille instructed to @Fabienne, turning the carapace upside down so the girl could see the crab’s innerworkings.
a crab.the crustacean’s nine remaining limbs worked in beaten protest, one hanging haphazard from a broken joint. the prominent foreclaw was absent.
turning the crab right side up, sobeille’s gaze turned to the children behind her. excepting fabienne, they were too young for any sort of successful hunt — but if they were going to grow into powerful seaside hunters, their teachings began now.
kill it.

Fabienne listened. Tried to catalog the words of common to the words of friends or haitian she knew. It made her work slower as she tried to cross that language barrier.
It had claws usually. This one didnt have the big one. But those small ones could still hurt. She looked around. Casting gaze for rock or stone. Finding one she dropped it onto the creature with a strange sound.

a dark measure of approval crossed sobeille's gaze to see fabienne extinguish life by her order. her children were yet to make their first kill -- but they ate well, for children without a tribe.
to fabienne, this creature must seem strange. sobeille replayed the strange sound its shell made as it cracked, the flail and fall of limp limbs.

bon.sobeille picked shards of broken carapace from meat and offered the delicacy to sapphique's newest anoited killer.

Fabienne had no qualms with killing things to eat. Truthfully the girl didn't have many morals if she was honest. Or even beliefs. She had not been taught right from wrong not really. And we'll she could go either way.
Granted. She knew some right and wrong. She could remember some things. But mostly. Well.
Fabienne separated pieces and pushed some towards Sobeille a motion of her head. As if saying you too.

someday, fabienne might impart this wisdom to her own children. this was sobeille's goal: a lifetime legacy ensuring the future of their generation.
smiling, sobeille picked at the offered shreds of meat. crabs were such strange creatures, truthfully - but their flesh made good bait for fisheries.
this made her think of suzu, which in turn caused a tidal churn within her.
an idea took flight unprompted.

come, sobeille bid the girl, directing her towards the wide open where sky met beautiful sea.

Fabienne had been around the littliest babies. And she wasn't sure if they were for her. But fleeting thoughts took root on occasion. But for now. She simply wanted to live to see tomorrow. It was hard eeking out a living with no true pack.
Fabienne blinked surprised, but picked the last of her meal up and followed behind. Eating on the walk to whereever they were going now.
