Laurel had not given it much thought that she hadn't seen Xan around much, but Indra knew exactly where the most painful buttons were. She was beginning to fret now that he had, indeed, gone back to the dumb girl and that he hadn't given Laurel a second thought. That wasn't how the game was supposed to be played.. If anyone did the deserting, then it should be her.

There was insecurity thrumming in Laurel's heart but she didn't want Indra to see how she was feeling. She gave a light-hearted shrug and then decided: "I'm not gonna sit around and mope over someone so insignificant." She knew that it wasn't really true, because she did care and she did want to believe that Xan wouldn't go back to the dumb girl after having been with her. "If he doesn't know to stick around a real woman and runs back to her, that's his own shitty mistake." No matter how much she wanted to believe he would not, Laurel knew in her heart that he would do exactly what she just described. She just needed to make sure it was not her heart squashed in the process, needed to remind herself first and foremost of the words she had just spoken. He was just a no-good loser that reminded her of her father — he wasn't worth her cares.
