Last winter. It would be a year soon, she realized suddenly. Strange that it didn't feel that long, but at the same time nearly felt like things had always been this way. She was adapting.

I was lucky that they were crazy enough to try what they did. I'm not sure I would be able to. Maybe if she could guarantee the only alternative was death, but it still seemed like a heavy risk. She still hadn't ever learned how they managed it either. With things here as quiet as they are, hopefully I'll never find out. Aside from her run in with the cat just recently, she didn't recall the last time she'd had to treat anything serious. Not since the Redhawks were here at least.
