He dove back in to the snow a second time, or rather, withdrew in to it. When he popped out again, snow fell from atop his snout. His ears were pinned down by a particularly icy patch but as he slid out of the pile a bit, they popped up one after the other - in time to hear Lyra's sharp voice. The boy snorted a small puff of air from his nose, and it dissipated slowly overhead while he turned to look at her.

Each time he'd snapped at the snow had helped. At the same time, the snow melted on his tongue too quickly. His mouth had grown a bit numb in the process so when he finally willed up enough energy to speak, he couldn't quite get his tongue to work right. Toot hartsh, he tried to explain. When his own voice hit his ears (and sounded unlike what he intended) he gave another huff and pulled himself free of the snow.

Revui's silver coat was layered with ice and snow, and as he took a few steps, chunks fell from him and scattered against the ground. He ran his tongue over his lips, his snout, that gap where his tooth had been (feeling a spasm of sharp pain in his gums and nearly biting down on his own tongue) and tried to warm up the muscle. He snorted a bit of snow from his nostrils, and tried again to say: Tooth hurts, snow helps.
