Look, Mal was probably pretty easy to convince to sleep with someone on a normal day -- it wasn't like that was an everyday thing but pretty much if someone was up for a good time, he was too. Hua being in heat just really encouraged him to try and push things that way. Bad idea? Maybe. But he was making the not-too-unreasonable assumption that since she actually did have a family, they'd properly educated her about all the stuff in the world. Either way, it all lead in to his next question, Is there one thing you just have to have in your future that you don't have now? And silently he hoped it was something he could totally just provide her since maybe then he could actually get someone to stay but eh.  He expected the abstract.
