normally, her heat cycles remain calm as shikoba usually does not feel any desire to act upon the instinct of her body. oftentimes she keeps to herself and simply focuses on other tasks on hand, whether it is improving her den or hunting and refilling the caches. but this season, there is a catch. a man has finally found his way to her heart and has wedged himself deeply within. for the first time in what feels to be many years, shikoba feels herself grow weak to turning away from her primal instinct. she is hungry, so she must feed.
the sivullik finds herself wading through the snow in hopes of finding the lumbering man in their shared ulaq. a growing urge in the pit of her stomach as pheromones emanate from her body, ripe for the taking.
What better way could the remainder of the cold season be spent? He could think of none.
Him. Shikoba. Together in an ulaq of their own.
Who would have thought that the first ulaq he would have in this village would be shared with a woman he shared a heart with also.
The temperatures remained frigid, but now in higher digits then they once were. Nonetheless, Inutsuk would be sure that none lacked warmth. Today, the man had spent much time catching and skinning a creatures pelt, lining it within the ulaq's floor. Such in addition to the warmth they would provide one another, the goal would be met.
Midst his work, Inutsuk could hear his newly mate approaching. He could smell her too.
Days before, the scent was present, but it hadn't yet presented as appealing. Now, however, was a different story. It was tempting, especially so as the sivullik approached their quarters.
Stepping across the lain tunics, he emerged to greet her. A simple chuff and peck would not do. No. Now that he was able, Inutsuk intended to spoil her with every ounce of affection he could.
Tail lifted and swaying, he bounded through the snow with ease. Once in close proximity, he reached outward and nuzzled her cheek affectionately, then brushed his nose gently against her ear. No words were needed here to describe what emotion he felt. Though only absent from his sight for a short time, oh how he still missed her so.

she that he was hard at work, lining the shared space to ensure that winter would not be spent shivering and frigid. a place of warmth, a place of rebirth, a place of comfort. shikoba would have to remind herself to thank him. though, that is in the back of her head for now.
what matters is that he draws near; a brush of the cheek and of her ear. it is gentle and sweet but does little to quench the fire that burns within her body. thankfully, however, she plants a heavy kiss against his cheek in return, knowing that giving is just as important as receiving. a low rumble escapes her throat as if she intends to claim him even when there is no one around to take him away.
a small glance of her eyes to meet his; soon she aims to graze her teeth against his neck as gently as she can manage. damn her heat, it makes her feel out of control; she knows better than to be so forward, despite the fact that this is her mate she is encroaching upon. yet she cannot shake the feeling, the want, the need for him. a deep inhale of his scent now, another low rumble. it is an ancient way to court.

The familiar warmth flooded over as Shikoba's body became so close to his. It was as if electricity had struck him; but when it had, there was no pain. In its place would be comfort, joy, and also a third feeling he could not quite name.
Inutsuk could smell the scent of the season even more-so now. It was distracting. Very distracting.
He was soon able to tell that it was for his mate as well. Rumbles filled the air. Then her teeth came to graze his neck, asking... no.. pleading. The man couldn't help but play along.
Swinging his snout over her crown, he nipped at her ear, gentle enough to not draw blood. His hind paws began to dance, carrying themselves to the side so that his flank was against her own. Not a single inch of space would be left between them. He wouldn't allow it.
By now, growls of his own could be heard. They were hollow and crude. What tone would be used with anger was now used instead to voice desire.

a nip of her ear, the rumbles in his throat returned to her. the hunger of the season continues to draw in, now all shikoba does and push into the man's body towards their shared space. she would enter first, one final glance is given to him before she disappears. another low growl summons him to enter.
the primal dance would begin, an eternal flame that would be lit inside of her heart for this man, and for no one else.

If you'd like to fade here, following a final response of your own, this can be my last.
No moments would be wasted here.
She beckoned, so the tawny man followed, lumbering between the arch of the cavern.
Pressing against her flank once more, Inutsuk's teeth grazed her neck, occasionally finding a hold upon her nape; he was careful not to draw blood whilst doing so.
Once finding himself bored of the prowling, he took a few steps backwards, and then mounted her posterior.
The dance then began, paws tapping against the ground with shared excitement. Frontal limbs were careful to keep a firm hold, jaws snapping against the air towards any retaliation to his movements.

i tend to do a mini fade; i love our threads so we can skip to the after-moment if that's okay with you! <3
he is quick to please, letting himself slide on top of her and rest his body against her own. their breathing becomes matched, and all shikoba feels is warmth when in his embrace. she closes her eyes and only thinks about the moment she currently lives in.
~~~~~~~~
they've separated, but only in a different form. now she lays down in the furs that her lover has prepared for her. they are warm and only bring comfort, though laying beside his body is truly what brings a sense of peace to the woman. a gentle graze of her muzzle against his cheek, a soft rumble of affection towards him.
Perfectly okay! The idea of a mini-fade is amazing.. I never would have thought to do that, xD. Usually it leads to another thread, but this makes it even easier to continue.
Close by touch; sunk into the warmth of the ground's lining as well as each other.
Inutsuk feels the rhythm of both hearts together, beating as one, though of different bodies. She is close, but there is a magnet pulling; pleading as though they are not close enough.
Her muzzle against his chin wrenched his heart, making the man fall in love all over again. When would there ever be enough..
Reaching over her crown, a tongue lolled, offering soothing licks to the head, cheek, muzzle, ears... everywhere he could reach. Their dance had been fun, but that wasn't enough for him. It was his desire to please her in every way, including ensuring that she was spoiled with every ounce of affection he could give.
The moment his heart had claimed her own, Inutsuk was like a rogue who had found the most precious treasure. Sivullik was the rarest gem and he would forever be her first hunter — the man who would hunt for her happiness and protection; to keep her warm during the coldest nights and be her shoulder when tears would fall, all until the day he drew his final breath.
a small laugh finds itself falling from her lips, a bubbly giggle as kisses find themselves placed along every single inch of her face and body. the dance was indeed fun, she could not deny that. but the time after, where she can lay beside him and put away the job of sivullik to enjoy the moments with inutsuk was the sweetest thing of all.
she breathes in deeply for a moment, before turning up to look towards the man with soft eyes. "what does inutsuk hope for? sons or daughters?" it was a question that remained in her head for quite some time now. did he have certain customs that would need to be met, like having a firstborn son? while shikoba remains tied to her culture, she appears to be more progressive thinking as she has grown throughout the different areas of the wilds.
That laugh was a burning sensation of warmth to his heart. If only such could be heard every second of every day, he need never feel sense of anger again.
To hear her voice then only worsened the grapple within his chest.
"What does Inutsuk hope for?" She asked.
Indeed, it was a sincere question; one that normally required much thought. For him, though, it didn't.
It matters not which. Being able to share a child with you is a blessing in of itself.
It was more than likely she'd asked out of curiosity for any traditions he may hope to see as they begin their family. He had thought more of this query for her sake. What traditions he once had in his youth were not ones he would ever think to fall upon with his own children.
I was thinking... depending on the number.. I want one to be a name of your people; and if two, then one named by Kukutux. It was she who permitted my rebirth and gave me my new name. For that, to share such a gift with a sprout of my blood would make it all the more wholesome. If there are others... well, we can figure that out when the time comes.A change of topic would blow away the cruel thought of his past. Once the suggestion had been shared, Inutsuk looked down upon his mate, curious of her thoughts.
his words are tender to her ears and she can't help but smile towards him more than she already has. shikoba truly would not believe anyone, even herself, if they had told her just a few mere months ago that she would find herself with a mate, and now hopefully soon to be expecting her first liter. despite her older age, she holds little worry so far. thankfully, the anxious mom hormones have yet to settle in. for now, she simply focuses on the now, which is currently spent draped alongside inutsuk comfortably.
she is indeed glad to hear that her culture would be honored with the name of the first born, though she is surprised that kukutux is brought into the conversation. though, the man provides good reasoning behind his wishes and shikoba feels it would be wrong to deny him of such. after all, moonwoman is a prominent figure in their lives, they do owe her the fact that they are together.
she nods to him gently, content with the idea. though, there is always the chance that they could have more. now, shikoba licks her lips and tentatively navigates over the gentle ice of inutsuk's mysterious background. she knows she has asked about it a bit before, but she wants to know just a tad more, to be able to learn more about him. "does inutsuk wish to leave behind his culture and names?" it would be a clear and obvious answer since he changed his name, but now shikoba wonders about his possible kin.
She seems pleased with his ideas, but there is also a feeling of hesitancy that Inutsuk senses.
The times of his past were not all pleasant. To his mind, at the time, pushing it all away and pretending it never existed seemed like the best route. Though, there is one thing he never truly would accept, as it was trapped in denial: a life can never be forgotten once it is lived, for it remains as a piece of the soul. Memories can be ignored, but will never disappear.
While it is all much to his dismay, the truth could never be changed, no matter how badly he wished it could.
Just as the thoughts rolled though, Shikoba asked a question of similar topic. It stung, really; to hear the words aloud. It felt as though he had an obligation to be straightforward. He didn't want to lie, per-say, but it didn't feel like the right time to overwhelm her with his life story. Their next chapter had just begun.. surely this would send all of their joy to ruin.
There never was a culture or name worthy to be remembered. That's that.A bit cold, really, was his response. Perhaps it was justifiable; perhaps it wasn't. Nothing could yet satisfy the urge to walk away and pretend nothing had been said. He'd said it and now, he awaited judgement.
she shifts away from him for a moment, almost a bit hurt at the fact that he would not share his history with her. perhaps it is in her ignorant nature to always demand the truth and always expect to receive it, considering the woman is so open about her past and culture. this is hard for her, hitting a sudden wall with a man she feels so close with.
a small breath, a minute of contemplation. "alright." she said to him, direct, though her tone remains quiet. shikoba would back down, only because they have something worth cherishing over instead of arguing. "it will not just be shikoba that inutsuk will have to talk to," she warns him, casting a look to her belly for a moment, "it will also be them."
but the woman just shakes her head and attempts to settle back down with the man. "will cross that path when we get there." unless this man breaks his betrothal to the native and primal woman, he will have to accept the fate of letting her know who he really is, and who he once was. but for now, she will force herself to remain content.
He hadn't meant to hurt her, truly. Though, he could see in her gaze that he had.
Could he attempt to comfort her? No.. Trying to pull himself in after pulling away would only confuse her. He had made his choice to keep silent; now he would have to deal with the repercussions from said decision.
Inutsuk sat in silence as she pondered. Guilt burnt within him like a fire. What was there that could be done now? He'd already struck the match. No taking it back now.
I don't wish to keep secrets from you... but, there are some tales best left unsaid. Trust me, my history is not a story I wish to sit here and drown you with.Biting his tongue, he paused.
However...He proceeded, slowly.
If they should ask,The man motioned to her belly, gaze lingering there for a moment before returning to steady upon her face.
Then I will know it is meant that I should tell both them and you.
Is that fair enough? His gaze would question, silently pleading for her to accept this response. If she didn't, Inutsuk feared that he would forever find a look of shame whenever she saw him.
his answer and gaze speak. while any partner would feel unhappy that their significant other wishes to keep chapters unknown, there is at least the promise of a chance, should the opportunity or need arise. and for that, shikoba decides to swallow her curiosity and disappointment. there is a time and a place, for now, neither of those are upon them.
a subtle nod of her head. "as long as inutsuk is who he promises to be," she says softly as she looks towards him, "that is what matters." she knows he has a good heart within him, and while she will hunt for his past, she would rather focus on what gifts are to be brought upon in her near future.
a family, a continuation of her bloodlines. perhaps now the woman may begin to sleep easy. after all, she has inutsuk to keep her warm, at night and keep her night terrors at bay. she breathes in, reaching towards him to resume their earlier position of comfort. and when she breathes out, she feels her fur sprawl against his own.
Her gaze softens. This gives him relief. Now he knows she will hold no grudge against his refusal.
I have always been and always will be the man that fell for you, Shikoba. He who is honest and swears his truth and soul to you. This has never changed and never will.
She reached for him again, sprawling out against his thick fur. A soft grumble; a purr, almost, escaped his throat. Inutsuk extended his neck and curled around her, embracing her and pulling her closer to him.
Never...He murmured in a whisper, adding addition confirmation of his previous words.
he remains close and shikoba simply sighs in relief; perhaps out of comfort too. finally, she has someone in her life to give her a new name, a new meaning.
anaa. mother. wife.
she would be all of these things. and while it scares her to death, she can only be hopeful that those who surround her, either as alive or as a spirit, can help her navigate this new and strange chapter of her life.
ready to fade here if you are! let's have another thread that's more present-dated <3
I'm totally down!
Inutsuk took her sign as a relief to his own self. He'd once had the fear she would turn away from him after refusing to tell the tale of his past life. But she didn't.
She was a woman who cared for many things. This would lead her to be a great mother. Surprisingly enough, he even found himself excited for the time when pups scampered around their ulaq. The two shared both a fond heart and new life. What could make them more inseparable than that?
