Ankyra Sound crab chaos

Prompt: Crabs! Thousands of crabs!

The swarm had arrived. Hundreds and thousands of crabs descended upon the beach, scuttling over everything and all in their path. Astera had decided to leave the borders of Sapphique for the afternoon, and see what she could before returning home. Little did she know that the beach had been invaded. Astera let out a howl, calling others of her pack. Would ya look at this!

Heph had been wandering up the coast lazily considering seeing if Atka was around and running with a little one of her own yet, but she soon found herself further afield than anticipated. While the area was not quite familiar to her having been to it once afforded her some added sureness to her step. Near Sapphique she considered approaching, the meeting with the other pack still fresh on her mind for how old it was, but she was not quite confident enough to call on their borders with nothing to trade yet. But as she continued to walk she noticed that the shore was quickly being filled by other inhabitants. Her first thought at the sight of so many crabs was easy pickings for a meal, but her second thought was that there were more than she had anticipated.

Was it normal for this area? She had only been there the once. The call of another wolf had her going in that direction, perhaps it was someone who knew what was happening. "Heya! Do you know what's going on?" The wolf looked on the younger side but coming into her adult size. Still Heph was confused enough that the sight of another was more than welcome.

The wolf was a stranger, but Astera was unfazed. She seemed friendly enough. Nah, I dunno why there are so many today. The crabs intrigued her, so she boldly strutted across the beach, sniffing at a crab. Pinch! Astera jumped back with a dramatic yelp as the crab's pinchers found her nose. Hey! Not nice! Scolding the little crustacean did little good, as it scuttled forward, clicking its pinchers threateningly. They're mean! 

Heph noted the encroaching crabs, while before they had merely seemed to heavily dot the landscape they were quickly turning into a verifiable solid wave which seemed to eat up the coast. Seeing the other wolf be pinched she did her best to keep her head above the tide, but her tail and paws were not so lucky and she gave out a matching yelp.

Seeing a crab connected to the end of her tail she snapped at it, getting a mouthful of shell in the process and feeling poke sharply at her mouth. Doing her best to spit it out she could feel more legs on her paws. "Ack, that'll tear up my stomach before it fills it up." Despite chewing and eating bones she knew better than to try and swallow the splinters whole. Maybe a larger crab she would be able to separate the shell, it was hard to distinguish them in the horde.

Astera was horrified that the wolf had killed and eaten an adorable crab! Sure they pinched, but she found the chaotic crustaceans to be very cute. Astera picked a little crab up in her mouth gently, but abandoned it as a mass of crabs clung to her tail. She soon vanished for an instant under a horde of them, emerging with crabs painfully pinching her ears and paws. Nope, nope! She fled, tail between her legs. The beach was too populated today!

Astera out! Free for whoever else wants to join.

Heph watched the other pick up a crab with her own mouth but the other wolf fled before Heph could chase after. She was not sure what she had done to elicit such a response or perhaps it was the far more intrusive company of their crustacean audience. But as a mass of them began running over her paws she beat her own hasty retreat.
